Cesky Krumlov

Comments by Lucy in italics
Day 1 – 28 December
Caught an early train from Salzburg to Linz, changed to Summerau, changed to Ceske Bedejovice then one more change to Cesky Krumlov. The trains got progressively smaller, older and dodgier. The last one even managed to break down at one stage and fill the carriage with smoke. But we eventually made it to the small quaint town of Cesky Krumlov.

Our hostel was a 200 year old building next to the river named Hostel Skippy, Skippy being the name of the woman who runs the place. The place looked 200 years old, but felt very cosy. We ended up in a tiny room, which made it even cosier! It appeared to be a converted laundry, judging from the pipes and taps coming out of the walls.

Headed out and explored the town, which didn’t take long, the place is petite compared to the last few spots. We had an open fire roasted chicken drum stick, then dinner with mead and spelt coffee in a medieval themed restaurant. Ridiculously cheap. We then went off to explore the rest of the villages quiet night life, and managed to find a motorcycle themed pub, and a jazz and cocktail bar. Again, both very cheap.

Day 2 – 29 December
Wandered through the castle, the main tourist attraction, but the interior was closed for the winter. We visited a torture museum, which was very graphic and didn’t leave much to the imagination and had us both cringing. Much more relaxing was a return to the motorbike museum for a proper look. Had another spelt coffee then spent the afternoon relaxing in a tea house, before a delicious fish dinner (open fire again) at another medieval restaurant.

The snowfall here was just delightful. Soft, powdery, refusing to compact into a snowball. So, Martin was safe.

Really enjoyed Cesky Krumlov, it was very relaxing and all about the food and drink. So now all I have to do is learn how to make mead.
