Westchinster

As Martin and I are soon leaving London behind us, we've been busily trying to see as much as we can that England has to offer. We have a trip to Bath coming up, and to Cornwall. Last weekend we were lucky enough to catch a train to Winchester, to visit our friends Margaret and Daniel from NZ. It was a lovely trip out actually. Very nice train ride of about an hour or so.
We arrived and made our way through the extremely quaint English town to their city apartment. Well, as city as Winchester gets. That evening we drove to Brighton. What an interesting place. Though we only spent time at the pier. It was cold, windy, and very uncrowded. That didn't stop us from having a game of mini golf, and risking our lives on the somewhat dodgy feeling carnival rides. Including a fantastically frightening ghost train (as frightening as those can get), and what seemed like a tame, crazy mouse ride, that actually had Margaret fearing for her life. The roller coaster was not open due to high winds, and needing a minimum of eight people for stability. Hmmmm. We finished the pier visit at a supposedly famous fish n chip restaurant. But let's face it, they'd have to be pretty fantastic to impress four kiwis. Well, they were okay, but I've had better out of paper!
We drove home satisfied that we'd experienced a part of English culture that is probably better appreciated in the height of the summertime.
Next day we drove to a safari park, and drove through all sorts of wild animals, including crazy monkeys that chewed on car bits, rhinos who needed a tractor for security, and lazy lions and wandering wolves. A good time all round I think.
So that was Winchester in a nutshell. In my opinion, it's the small towns that bring lots of real culture and curiosities on a trip.
